Example of eco-cartography (Canary islands)

Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment allow the public and free access to Coastal Eco-cartography. This information may result basic for further ecological studies of the coastal zone.

Among the available data we can find seabed topography, biodiversity, bathymetry, etc. which can be usefull for a variety of research groups. Currently these ecocartography is geographically limites to certain coastal areas (Atlantic and Cantabric zoast are not yet available); however, it is planned to complete the whole Spanish coast. These studies started in 1999.
